The Porter County Epidemic.
The secretary of the State Board of Health has received a letter from the health officer at Valparaiso, who says that he is satisfied, after investigating the causes of the strange disease which has been prevailing in Porter County with such remarkable fatality, that it is "epidemic dysentery," the cause of which may be tainted mear, although it is not positively known to be. There were 2 deaths on Friday and 8 new cases. The local health officers have ordered that the sick shall be isolated from the well, and have taken sanitary precautions against a further spread of the disease. The vicinity in which the disease is prevailing is inhabited by Swedes and Polanders, and it is difficult to make them understand the necessity of the sanitary precautions which have been ordered.
