Dead Body Found.
August 15, 1880, the dead body of a man was found by Mr. Augustus Anderson, in Westchester township, about four miles south-east of Chesterton. From the testimony that was available, the coroner finds that "deceased came to his death by causes unknown," but infers that the man was drowned. The spot where the body was found is covered with water during wet periods, and the appearance of the remains indicates that life had been extinct as much as two months. The body was reduced to a mere skeleton, and some of the bones were scattered. The cavity of the skull and other parts were filled with a sort of sediment, and not a vestige of any garment or other clue to identification was found about. The coroner does not report any indication of violence. The body is supposed to be that of a stranger, whose death may have resulted from a voluntary act of his own.
