WHO WAS HE?
By a letter from Mr. Dudley Merrrill, Coroner of Lake County, we learn that a coroner's inquest was held on the 23d day of March last, over the body of a man who had been found dead in the Calumet river, in North Township, about 9 miles west of Baileytown, and 3 miles north of Miller's tavern; and that the Jury reported that the man (name unknown to them) came to his death by a blow over the left eye, and other violence about the head; he was about 5 feet 8 inches high, with dark hair and sandy beard; had a suit of dark colored satinette - a frock coat, double breasted, vest with metal buttons, & nearly new; had on an oldish black hat; when found had neither stockings nor boots; -- a cotton striped undershirt, and fine cotton shirt with plated bossom, and buttons; his teeth sound; 30 or 35 years old.
Editors please notice.
It is unaccountable to us that the letter above referred to should have been so long in coming so short a distance.
