A BABE UNEARTHED.
NOW WHO DARES CRY FAKE? WITH A VIEW OF SHIELDING CRIME.
A clew to a foul-handed deed unearthed from an outhouse on Wednesday afternoon.
The men were working under Mr. Demass, excavating for the Johnston Bros' new store building when they unearthed a 4-month's-old child. It was about the size of an ordinary man's fist. It was a female child, and was well preserved. This is evidence that it could not have been in its grave very long. The find was a strange one, as though guided by the hand of the Almighty.
Slowly they dug until at last a laborer took a shovel full from the side of the embankment, and lo! they beheld an innocent babe, which was victimized by its cruel and heartless mother. She was probably prompted by the wicked motive of its father. This is the most black-handed crime in the whole category known to mankind. When the perpetrators of this crime meet their judgment the gates of the lowest dungeons of hell will open with a laugh of mockery, spitting tongues of fire welcoming their condemnation. This is the first clew, and every possible effort will be exerted to divulge facts sufficient to warrant a conviction of these black-hearted midnight murderers.
