Anson C. Tuthill

OLD VETERAN ANSWERS TO THE CALL OF DEATH
(From Monday's Daily)

Anson C. Tuthill, 75 years old, a veteran of the civil war, was found dead in his room at the home of A. J. Wickham, Institute street, yesterday morning, where he had lived for the past three weeks. Death was due to diabetes brought about by rheumatism of many years' duration, which had made him a cripple. Mr. Tuthill was born and reared in Lowell, Lake county, and held membership in the Masonic lodge there, which he later transferred to Markesan, Wis. He came to this city several years ago and became a member of the Chaplain Brown post, G. A. R.

Mr. Tuthill had an enviable war revord, and in his possession he prized letters from some of the leaders of the war. Among this correspondence was one from Gen. William T. Sherman. His wife preceded him in death, and no children survive. Judge Harry B. Tuthill, of Michigan City, was a distant relative, and Mrs. Julia Tuthill, of this city, was related through marriage. The deceased received a pension of $50 a month from the government.

A. N. Worstell, who looked after his personal affairs, went to Lowell yesterday and arranged for the funeral there tomorrow, when the Masonic lodge there will officiate. Short services will be held at the Wickham home here in the morning at 9 o'clock, prior to the departure for Lowell.
