Andrew Swanson
Another Fatal Accident.
On Saturday last Andrew Swanson, a well-known farmer of this place, was killed by the cars at Englewood. Four years ago Mr. Swanson left here to visit his sons in Salina, Kansas, intending to return shortly, but his visit entended into years. Finally he started. Being unable to speak a word of the English language, the trip was no easy one for him. He reached Englewood all right, and it is supposed was trying to get the necessary information to enable him to take the right train for Chesterton. Failing to find any of his countrymen, he got lost and wandered up the Rock Island track. The Rock Island dummy came thundering along, and struck the unfortunate man, killing him instantly. The police took charge of his remains, and found the check for his trunk. In the trunk they found a letter recently written by Mr. Jno. Lawson of this place. The police then notified Mr. Lawson of the accident, and asked him to come and identify the body. Both Lawson, senior and junior, went and found their old neighbor, whom they brought to Chesterton Monday night for burial.
Mr. Swanson was a native of Sweden, 75 years old. He came to this place 15 years ago, and owned 40 acres of land adjoining Jas. Lawson's farm, near Salt Creek. As a neighbor he was highly respected, and his sad death is greatly deplored by all who knew him. The funeral occurred Tuesday from the Swedish Lutheran church.
