STOKES. -- At her residence in Fort Wayne, on Sunday evening, November 5th, 1882, Mrs. Ellen Stokes, aged 47 years.
Mrs. Stokes was a native of County Cork, Ireland. She came to this country in 1847 and lived a greater part of the time since in Valparaiso. Some few years she removed to Kalamazoo, Mich., and from there to Fort Wayne, where she has since resided. She was widely known and esteemed by all. Her death, which was caused by heart disease, was very sudden and unexpected as she had been in her usual state of health up to the last moment. The deceased had always expressed a desire to be buried in Valparaiso and the body was accordingly brought here Tuesday morning. The funeral, which was quite a large and respectable one, occurred the same day. The burial services took place in St. Paul's Church. High Mass was celebrated for the repose of the departed soul, after which Father O'Reilly preached the funeral sermon in which he paid an eloquent and deserved tribute to the memory of the deceased. Her remains were interred in St. Paul's Cemetery, their last resting place.
