Morgan D. Stickney

OBITUARIES.
M. D. STICKNEY. -- At Detroit, Mich., March 12th, 1883, Morgan D. Stickney, son of the late William Stickney.

Mr. Stickney's birth place was at Boonville, N. Y., where he spent his childhood and youth. At an early age he was in the employment of a mercantile establishment at Utica, N. Y. near his home. Later in life he held responsible positions in several of the leading wholesale houses in the West, until about the year 1874, when he resigned his situation with Messrs. Grey, Kimbrough & Co., of St. Louis. Failing to adapt himself successfully to the retail merchandise here and at Winamac, Ind., he had the greater part of the last few years been traveling in the interest of New York, Boston and Detroit firms. For several months past, he had been in care of physicians at the latter place, up to the date of his sudden departure. He had united with the church, his membership and that of his wife still remaining with the Second Presbyterian Church, St. Louis, of which Rev. S. J. Nicolls, D. D. is pastor. Among former associates in that congregation he will be remembered as a person of attractive appearance, genial and pleasing manner. His remains were taken to Cortland, N. Y., and placed in a vault until more favorable season for burial, which, it is presumed will take place at his early home in accordance with the wish of friends. He leaves a family in this place, and in the East many more distant relatives to mourn his loss.
