Anna Smith
Death of Anna Smith.
Anna, daughter of Edward and Emily Smith, was born at Beaver Dam, Wis., May 11, 1866, and died at her father's residence in this city, Thursday, Mar. 25, having almost attained the age of 14 years.
The funeral took place from the M. E. Church on Friday at 3 o'clock P. M. An appropriate sermon was preached by Rev. N. L. Brakeman, after which Rev. Robt. Beer made some very touching remarks relative to the character of the deceased and the high esteem in which she had always been held. Her teachers and school-mates attended the funeral and marched in procession from the house to the church; and after the services, were allowed to take a last look at the remains of their beloved companion. The immense crowd, composed of the children and the youth, the middle-aged and the old, -- the beautiful floral tributes, and the tears of genuine sorrow, prompted by pure friendship and tender love, -- all attest the universal affection for Anna, and the profound sympathy for the grief-stricken parents and friends.
No child in town, perhaps, was so widely known, or more generally esteemed. She had a bright and winning smile, sparkling eyes, and a kindly, cheerful disposition that won the hearts of all.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith have what consolation may be afforded by sympathizing friends; they have likewise that higher source of consolation to which they were so lovingly and so kindly directed by their Pastor.
"Amiable she won all; intelligent she charmed all; fervent, she loved all; and dead, she saddened all."
"Rest thou in peace, thou gentle spirit,
Throned above --
Souls like thine with God inherit
Life and love."
