Patrick Shanahan
Funeral.
It becomes our duty to chronicle the death and funeral of Mr. Patrick Shanahan, who departed this life on Thursday, September 18th. About a month ago the VIDETTE noticed that his aunt, Mrs. Mary S. Leonard, hearing of his being at Detroit, Mich., sick, went there and bought him to Valparaiso, where he has been ill at her house. The disease was consumption, and in its terrible power he sank rapidly breathing his last on Thursday at 3 P. M. At the time of his death Mr. Shanahan was nearly 22 years of age. He was born in this county, but lost his parents when very young. He lived for several years at Warsaw, Indiana. He owned a farm, near Valparaiso, of 80 acres, which he left to Mrs. Leonard. The funeral was one of the largest in Valparaiso for years. Father O'Reilly conducted the services at St. Paul's church in the presence of a large congregation of people and a procession followed the body to its last resting place in St. Paul's Cemetery.
