S. A. Samuelson
A Sad Accident.
A sad and distressing accident occurred Wednesday evening, the 25th inst., in which S. A. Samuelson, a prominent farmer of this township, lost his life. Mr. Samuelson lives about six miles north-west of Chesterton, on a farm crossed by the Calumet river. He has been in the habit of using a boat to cross this river, and the day in question, had been to a neighbor's, Otto Wiestrand's to settle up some business. He started to return home about 5 o'clock, and stepped into the boat to cross over. As he did so, the boat tipped up, and threw him into the water. The boat turned bottom side, and held the unfortunate man under the water until life was extinct. All this time his wife, who had come down to the river bank to meet him, saw the accident, but was helpless to assist him. She ran to a neighbor, Harley McPherson, and gave the alarm, but when assistance arrived, all that could be done was to recover the body. Deceased was a popular, well known citizen, about 60 years of age, and a resident of this township for the past thirty years. The funeral will be held Sunday.
