August Rosenkranz
STRANGLED BY CORD.
AUGUST ROSENKRANZ, OF LAPORTE, EMPLOYS DESPERATE MEANS TO DIE.
Age and Loss of Employment the Cause.
On Monday of this week a laboring man by the name of August Rosenkranz residing at No. 420 State street, was found hanging from a cord over the door in his house at one o'clock in the afternoon. He was seen by several pedestrians through an open window, and when the neighbors were called one of them sent after the authorities. Sheriff Small arrived soon after with Undertaker Ball and the two broke into the house. There was no one there except the suicide. The body was at once cut down and it was still warm, so that life could not have been extinct many minutes. An examination of the premises showed that the suicide had been deliberately planned and carried out. Rosenkranz had taken two pieces of cord, doubled them and after tying one end to a door knob, threw the other over the top of the door, and then fastening a noose about his neck threw himself forward so that the cord would strangle him. The cord was too long, so Rosenkranz had to half lay down to choke himself. Had he gotten up on his knees he could not have killed himself, and the fact that he did not at any time shows that he was determined to die.
Rosenkranz was about 65 years old and was an employe of the Rumley factory. He had been laying off on account of an injury to one of his hands, which probably accounted in a measure for his despondency. He leaves two children, whom he sent to school before he killed himself.
