HOBART LADY BURNED TO DEATH
(From Friday's Daily)
Mrs. James Roper, about 63 years old, was found with her body almost burned to a crisp yesterday at noon, by Claude Clifford at Hobart. Two hours afterward Mrs. Roper was dead. The tragedy shocked the whole community, were the woman spent all her life.
Mrs. Roper went to a five acre lot to burn off the grass. It is believed she fell in a faint; the fire then swept over her, igniting her clothing, which was burned off when Clifford discovered her. The family and Dr. Brink were notified at once. Medical and surgical skill were of no avail, and Mrs. Roper died without regaining consciousness. Last Sunday the funeral of her husband was held. Hers will be held next Sunday.
Mrs. Roper's maiden name was Amanda Randham. She was married to James Roper May 16, 1877. The following children survive: John Roper, of Plymouth; Evan, Lee and Lewis Roper, Mrs. Bliss Newman, Mrs. Emily Stockert, and Miss Grace Roper, all living in Hobart.
