Amos K. Robbins
OBITUARY.
ROBBINS. -- Monday morning September 4th, 1879, after a long and painful illness, Mr. Amos K. Robbins, aged 38 years, 4 months and 22 days.
The deceased was born in Porter county, Indiana, April 13th, 1841. In the latter part of November, 1875, he was taken with the sickness from which he never recovered. Early in life he had united with the Methodist church in Valparaiso, and in March last, along with his wife he renewed his covenant vows and was received informally in full membership in the M. E. church. In the near prospect of death he was sustained by that hope which is an anchor to the soul, both sure and steadfast, and at the last surrounded by his family and friends, he peacefully passed away, falling asleep in Jesus without a struggle, enjoying the respect of the community as an upright man. A large concourse attended the funeral services which were held at Robbins' church on Friday morning September 5th and were conducted by the Rev. John Smith, of Chesterton.
He called us round his dying bed,
A broken lonely hand;
We gently pressed his aching head,
While he told us of the better land.
He bid us all a long farewell,
He gently kissed his wife and children,
Then Jesus took him home to dwell,
Free from sickness, pain and woe.
