John Reynolds
Crushed by the Cars.
A tramp, who gave his name as John Reynolds, was killed at Porter Station, this county, last Saturday night, by falling beneath the cars. It seemed that the fellow had been stealing a ride and was put off the train by the conductor, but attempted to get on again as the trains started, and was thrown beneath the wheels. The right leg and the entire length of the right side of body were horribly mangled. The skin was taken off the right foot as if it was a moccasin, and the muscles of the inside of the leg were torn from the bone. The man was found immediately after the accident, and lived nearly an hour. Drs. Jones, of Porter Station, and Green, of Chesterton, were called, but no medical aid could retain life. He said that he was a tailor by trade and had no relatives except a son, who lived on a farm eight miles from Austin, Minnesota. His son was telegraphed to, but up to Monday evening no reply had been received. An inquest was held Monday and a verdict rendered to the effect that John Reynolds had come to his death by being crushed beneath the cars. The remains were kept in the depot at Porter until Tuesday, when they were buried, no word having been received from the son of the deceased.
