Christina Reicker
OBITUARY.
Christina Reicker was born in Wertenberg, Germany, Oct. 9, 1835, and died in Shelby, Mich., Jan. 20, 1916, aged 80 years, 3 months and 11 days.
She came to this country at the age of 17 years, landing at New York, where she remained for two years. After this she came to Porter county, Indiana, and in 1857 was united in marriage to John Leonard Weiler, also a native of Germany. To this union were born thirteen children, six of them dying in infancy, and one, Paulina J., dying fourteen years ago. Those who still survive are Mrs. Lenzo Maxwell, Edward, Frank and Adam, residing near the old home hear Hurlburt; John L., of Hebron, and Mrs. Emanuel Near, of Shelby, Mich.
The deceased lived in the same community at Porter Cross Roads for over forty years, and since her husband's death, nineteen years ago, she has made her home with her children, the last few years of her life being spent with her youngest daughter in Shelby, Mich. She became a member of the Mennonite church a great many years ago, always remaining faithful, and as trials came to her she was always prepared to meet them. Thus was her life ended, but the memory of her will ever remain with those who knew her and loved her.
Those who are left to mourn her loss, besides the six children, are eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.
The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Beehler at the Maxwell home, and interment was in the Shurr cemetery.
