I. W. Power
Last Sunday forenoon three Normal students, I. W. Power, J. Richardson and J. W. Brown, went down to Sager's pond to bathe, and Power sho could not swim got in beyond his depth and was about to drown, when one of his companions strove to get him out but was himself pulled in and down, so both were drowning. Then the third one, who could swim the best, succeeded in the rescue of the second, but young Power had sunk the last time and could not be found for several hours, when reanimation was impossible. When found his body was brought back to Normal Hill and laid out in his room at Mr. Garrison's where Dr. Paramore by inquest found the facts as we have stated. The deceased was left in charge of Richardson, the neighbor and familiar friend who narrowly escaped from drowning with him, and the latter took his dead companion home to Novi, about 25 miles from Detroit in Michigan. The coroner gave Richardson $5 which he found on Power's person to assist in the expense of transportation.
