William Piscek

Wm. Piscek, a Polander of Pine township, died last Tuesday it is supposed from the effects of a kick he received in a row with Job Campbell last Sunday at Keiser's saloon near Otis. The meen were quarreling about a pair of boots which Piscek charged Campbell with having taken, and both men being enraged and under the influence of liquor the row culminated in the death of one. Another account is as follows: John Piscek, of Pine township, died Monday night from the effects of kicks received, as stated, at the hands of Jos. Campbell and John Wesnock. A crowd had gathered at John Jeiser's residence in the interest of the democratic party, having whiskey furnished by Samuel Hackett and J. H. Winterbotham. The men were drinking with and trying to persuade Piscek to vote the democrat ticket, and he refused to consent, saying it was against his principles. He then started to go away, but was followed by the crowd and forced to return. They gave him more whiskey and tried to coerce him into a pledge to vote the democratic ticket. He still refused when he was violently attacked by his companions and brutally kicked by two of them. This is according to the statement of the injured man on his death bed. It is a matter of regret that southern methods should thus be introduced into Porter county.
