Israel Pierce
How He Did It.
The Lake County Star gives the following additional particulars of the death of Israel Pierce: "Nothing strange had ever been noticed in his ways or talk, and the suddenness of the rash act to his wife and family, and friends, is a very sudden blow. At 2 o'clock Thursday morning he told his wife he would get up and go to the barn and look to a mare that he expected to foal, when he dressed himself and lighted the lantern, which was the last time she ever saw him alive. Mrs. Pierce fell asleep and did not awake until 4 o'clock, when she thought something must be wrong at his long absence, and when she reached the barn she found him hanging, which he probably had done when first going out. He stood on a barrel while adjusting the rope, and apparently had kicked that out from under him when all was ready."
