Lydia Whitehead Phares

DIED.
JONES. -- At the old family homestead, now the residence of her son, Allen P. Jones, March 24th, 1880, Lydia W. Jones, aged 76 years, 9 months and 22 days.

Lydia Whitehead Phares was born in New Jersey. When she was three years of age her father moved to Ohio. Here in her 17th year she was married to Jonathon S. Jones. In 1832 she moved with her husband and family to Porter county, Indiana. Her in 1845 her husband died. Until her younger children reached maturity, Mrs. Jones continued house-keeping, after which she passed her time among all her children, changing from family to family as suited her wishes, being always a welcome and loved guest.

Grandma Jones was the mother of 13 children, -- five girls and eight boys. Of these but six survive. There were four sons who came to their death by the war of the rebellion. The surviving children were Robert P. and Allen P. Jones, and Mrs. Henry Highland, or Porter county; Mrs. Wm. Kipling and Mrs. Jerry Brown, who moved last October to Nebraska, and Mrs. Thomas J. Tunks, of Caldwell county, Missouri.

Grandma Jones was kind, charitable, and forgiving, and her many good qualities made her very dear to all who knew her.

The funeral was held on the 26th at the residence, Elder Gates conducting the services. Interment was made, in the Kimball cemetery, whither a large procession accompanied the remains.
