VALPO MAN PASSES AWAY AT WINTER HOME
(From Thursday's Daily)

C. H. Parker, Sr., one of the most prominent and well liked of Valparaiso citizens and widely known in the industrial world, passed away yesterday afternoon at San Leon, Tex., where he went early in the winter to escape the ravages of the northern climate. While it was known here that he was ill, his condition was not believed to be dangerous. For the purpose of keeping them in the south until warm weather was assured here, Mrs. M. F. Parker left Tuesday to join Mr. and Mrs. Parker in San Leon and to keep them company. It is believed that she failed to reach there until after Mr. Parker's death.

Mr. Parker founded the Parker paint shops here years ago on the southwest limits of the city. The industry has grown until now it is one of the most flourishing in its location near the Grand Trunk. A destructive fire at the old site, where fire protection was poor, caused the removal.

After he had met with the great Chicago fire, Mr. Parker came from that city to Chesterton and began making brick for the upbuilding of the burned district. He sold out this business later, to enter the paint business here. The varnishes, in which the company specializes now, are known all over the country.

Mrs. Parker and two sons, E. M. Parker and C. H. Parker, Jr., survive. The eldest son, M. F. Parker, died here over a year ago. The father was born at Geneva, N. Y., 78 years ago. Mr. Parker leaves one brother and five sisters, as follows: Ira Parker, in Oshkosh, Wis.; Mrs. Margaret Watt, of Chicago; Mrs. J. S. Wilcox and Mrs. Mary Dodd, of this city, and Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, of Detroit.
