DIED FROM A SHOT WOUND.
Wm. Panko, of Jackson Township, Shot by Accident and Died.
WESTVILLE, IND., Dec. 13, 1880.
EDITOR VIDETTE: -- On Sunday, Nov. 28, 1880, Wm. Panko, junior, a lad of 16 years, of Jackson township, Porter county, Ind., was out hunting with Henry Cruse, a young man of about the same age, when accidently the gun of the latter going off, shot Willie through the muscles of his right arm, between the shoulder and elbow. The two boys were close together at the time and the whole load passed through his arm, the gun being a rifle loaded with shot.
Henry Cruse ran immediately to the residence of Nelson Barnard, got a horse and went for Dr. Farvel, of Westville, while Charley Miller, who was close by took the boy to his father's house. The boy bled considerably and nearly fainted before he got home. The doctor pronounced the wound only to be a flesh wound, and thought it not very bad, but the boy got worse and suffered very severely until Wednesday, Dec. 8th, when he was relieved by death. He was conscious to his last minute, and just before he died he called his folks to his bed-side, bade them good-bye, and went to sleep in the calm slumber of death. Willie was the only son and is missed very greatly by the family. He was buried on Sunday and had a great many followers to his last resting place.
