Elizabeth Pagin
At Rest.
The funeral of Mrs. Dr. Pagin took place from the residence of Mr. A. Stanton on Washington street, at 1 p. m. yesterday (not 10 a. m. as erroneously stated in our Saturday's local column.) The ceremony was conducted by Rev. R. Beer, who gave expression to many thoughts that were comforting and consoling to the family of the departed. The beautiful singing, too, seemed almost inspiring. A large assemblege of friends was present and followed the remains to the new cemetery, where they were interred within an arched receptacle of masonary, beside those of her father Wilson Malone.
Mrs. Pagin was the oldest surviving one of nine children, one of whom in infancy preceded her to the grave. Substantially her entire life has been passed in Porter county. Her path is marked all along with the precious fruits of energy, frugality and charity. Six children -- five boys and one girl -- she has raised, Mary, the youngest, being in her 16th year. They all were privileged to be with her in her last sickness and at her death, which will be a solace to them through their days.
Deceased was born in Laporte County June 3, 1833, and was therefore in her 51st year. She was married Oct. 28, 1851, to Dr. S. Pagin, who survives to mourn her loss. Her aged mother also is preserved and bears this great affliction with her iron nerve.
The inscription "At Rest" upon her coffin-plate seemed most appropriate and fitting, being expressive of the peaceful condition of the ashes of an active and positive life. After a very protracted illness of excessive pain attended with an apparently endless succession of physical reverses to which long ago the power of an ordinary constitution would have succumbed, she is "At Rest."
