Lucy Owen
DIED,
On the 10th of September, inst., at the residence of her son, Milton P. Owen, in Kankakee township, Laporte County, of Dysentery, Mrs. LUCY WAIR, in the 59th year of her age, after a painful and distressing illness of eight days, which she bore with Christian fortitude and resignation. Mrs. Wair might be numbered among the early settlers of that county -- was a loving and tender wife -- an affectionate and indulgent mother -- a good neighbor, and universally esteemed and beloved by all who knew her. From her early youth she was a devoted disciple of to the doctrines of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and died with an unshaken confidence in its saving truths, and the blissful hope of a happy immortality. But a few short weeks ago, she seemed in the fullest enjoyment of good health -- enlivening with her chaste and cheering conversation the society in which she moved; the ways of Providence, however, to us are truly inscrutable, and while we tender our sypathies and condolence to the bereaved husband and other relatives of the departed, let us bow with a willing submission to the will of Him who shapes the end of all:
"Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord from henceforth: yea, saith the Spirit, for they rest from their labors and their works do follow them."
"The soul renewed by grace devine,
In God's own image, freed from clay,
In Heaven's eternal sphere shall shine,
A brilliant of day." (Communicated)
