John Olson
Passed Over The River.
John Olson, son and only living child of Mr. and Mrs. John Olson, of Crisman, Ind., died at 8:15 Friday evening, March 8th, after many months of suffering from throat troubles. The immediate cause of his death was congestion of the lungs. The funeral services were held at the Swedish church near Lake Station, on Sunday March, 10th at 2 p. m., conducted by the Rev. Sackrison. His age was 19 years, 11 months and 11 days.
The deceased was born in the city of Chicago, March 27, 1869 where he resided until the year 1879, when with his parents he moved to Crisman where they have since resided.
From his earliest youth he was desirous of gaining a knowledge of the good and the beautiful. He believed in making his own sunshine and music -- and kept his heart open to the smile of the Father and braved all things. He was averse to criticism, innuendoes, and often remarked to the writer that a man would be what his most cherished feelings were; hence his motto, "Be kind to all."
After five years of honest work in the Crisman school, he entered the Valparaiso Normal from which he graduated with honors in the year 1888. He was respected and beloved by all his teachers who never knew him to leave a task undone. With him the word "Impossible" was the adjective of the indolent.
He was a dutiful and affectionate son, striving at all times to do that which was pleasing in the sight of his God-fearing parents, who in their affliction have the sympathy of the whole community.
