Melville N. O'Brien
Masonic Resolutions of Mourning and Condolence.
Hall of Porter Lodge, No. 173, Sept. 21, A. L. 5854, A. D. 1854.
Whereas, God in his providence has removed our much loved brother M. N. O'Brien, from among us by death, therefore,
1. Resolved, That we deeply lament our loss, for as a brother we have ever found him worthy, and a true member of our fraternity.
2. Resolved, That we sympathise with the friends of our deceased brother, and that we erect in our hearts a monument to his memory more enduring than the tongueless marble or the laudations of men.
3. Resolved, That we close our stores and places of business at 2 o'clock P. M., and that they remained closed during the funeral service.
4. Resolved, That the charter, jewels, and implements of the Lodge be clothed with mourning, for 30 days.
5. Resolved, That the members of the Lodge tender their thanks to the Rev. J. C. Brown, for preaching the funeral sermon of their deceased brother; also that we tender our thanks to the visiting brethren from Crown Point; also a vote of thanks to the choir, band, and all visiting brethren.
Resolved, That the proceedings be published in the Practical Observer, and a copy forwarded to the brother of the deceased.
We are also requested by the member of the Brass Band to tender to the Masonic Fraternity their thanks for the liberal donation given them for their services on the above occasion.
