Thomas Murphy
LOCAL.
At the inquest held upon the death of Thos. Murphy, Mary Murphy widow, testified as follows: Saw Murphy in the bed room while I was standing in the front room; bed room door was open; saw him have a pistol in his hand. While my back was turned toward him the pistol was discharged. I turned round and saw him fall. There was no other person in the room. The deceased was excited and out of humor. After he fell he said, "Good by, Mary; you are a good woman."
At the same inquest Kate Murphy, daughter of the deceased, testified as follows: I was in the kitchen, my father was in the front bed room, and my mother in the front room. I heard my mother say "Oh, don't!" I went into the front room, saw my father in the bed room with a pistol in his hand, pointing towards his ear. My mother was in the front room. I turned round to go back into the kitchen when I heard the pistol discharged. I turned round and saw my father fall, heard him say nothing. I immediately left the house and went up town for a doctor. I had some controversy with my father last evening, but none with him this morning. Talked none with him before he died. Last evening my father was angry and slapped me two or three times.
