Michael Murphy
Coroner's Inquest Report.
State of Indiana,
Porter County.
BE IT REMEMBERED, That on the 23d day of February, 1876, Information was given to me that the dead body of a boy was found upon the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railway track near the first street crossing east of the Valparaiso depot, in said county and state, supposed to have come to his death by casualty, and I thereupon caused a jury to be summoned, sworn, and charged to ascertain, so far as possible, the cause and circumstances of said death. Witnesses, accordingly, were called and sworn, and testimony taken and reduced to writing, signed by both said jury and myself, and filed in the Clerk's office of said county, whereupon said jury made their verdict that said "decedent came to his death by accident in being thrown from a car while attempting to get a ride to the station. We therefore request the R. R. company through their employes to prevent boys from jumping on the trains while in motion near the station." Said decedent's name was Michael Murphy, his age about 12 years, and his body was left in charge of his mother, a resident of Valparaiso.
W. C. PARAMORE,
