DEATHS
DIED -- Thomas McNeff March 9th '93 at his home in Chesterton, aged twenty-four years and seven months.
The funeral occurred Sunday March 12th under the auspices of the P. O. S. of A., Rev. Jesse officiating.
The deceased was the oldest of a family of seven children six of whom have died within eight years of that dread disease consumption. Only one of the children now remaining, a boy of fifteen years. In this their oft repeated bereavement, the parents have the deepest sympathy of the community. We say sympathy, yet when we reflect, how many are prepared to extend that in its true sense to a home where for the sixth time in a few short years the somber mantle of death has fallen, and shroud and pall have been its history. And where once was buoyancy and light, and the bright smiles of hopeful youth now sits the sullen silence of vacant chairs. But to the bereaved parents we would say, in this your midnight of sorrow behold the celestial gems of God's sweet promises that flash from the sacred page dispelling the gloom of death, and giving comfort and consolation to sad and lonely hearts.
Thomas was an obedient son, a trusty friend, a true and faithful brother. He became a member of the P. O. S. of A. Aug. 5th 1891. By his unquestioned loyalty and fidelity to his pledge he endeared himself to the hearts of all his brothers, who as a last expression of their regard, saw fit to relieve the parents who are poor from the burden of funeral expenses by purchasing for him a very fine casket, and as a matter of further esteem, had sent from the city a lovely pillow of flowers in the center of which appeared the fraternal words "Our Brother." The remains were interred in the Chesterton cemetery there perhaps to lie until the morning of resurrection shall awaken and reanimate the sleeping dust.
A FRIEND.
