Charles McFarland
OBITUARY.
-- DIED: -- Charles McFarland, of Porter Township, aged 66 years, at 5 o'clock a. m. Aug. 29, 1998. Deceased was a pioneer of his township, having settled on the homestead where he died in 1846. About a month ago he was taken with severe weakness, of a paralitic nature, and since then to the time of his death he suffered a rapid decline. Something over a year ago, McFarland burried his wife, which has been the means very probably of shortening the gentleman's days. A week ago last Saturday he sank away so completely as to cause every one at the bedside to suppose the man was dead. News to that effect was brought to town, but was soon corrected, by intelligence that he was still alive. After that, he was expected to die at any moment. Finally he passed away. There are four children, two sons, and two daughters to mourn their dear father's death. The funeral services were held in the Covenanter church, six miles from town, at 10:30 a. m. last Saturday, the pastor of the church officiating and the remains of deceased were interred in the cemetery by the church. McFarland has long been an honored member of the Covenanter church and died in that faith. With this death one more pioneer has passed away; a kind father, and good neighbor is no more. The bereaved friends have the sympathy of all. When father and mother sleep in the tomb, the old home circle has lost its charms.
