Burl Maxwell
THE COUNTY.
MORGAN PRAIRIE.
Departed from this life Saturday afternoon, Dec. 4th, 1880, Burl Maxwell, youngest son of Jane and Arthur Maxwell. His loss will be felt not only by his parents, brothers and sisters, but by the surrounding community. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church at Tassinong, at which Rev. Edwards, of Valparaiso, delivered a touching discourse.
Oh, fold the hands gently,
And close the dark eyes,
And tread the room lightly,
Where dear Burlie lies.
Oh, so cold are his lips,
And still is his heart;
Out darling Burl's dead,
Alas, we must part.
His short life is done,
His sufferings are o'er;
Farewell, darling son,
We'll see thee no more.
Thy mild spirit left thee
As pure as it found thee,
E'er the cold cares of life
Spread darkness around thee.
Sleep on lovely cherub,
No more shalt thou waken;
Thy body lies quietly,
Cold and foresaken.
No more shall the eyes
Of affection behold thee,
No more shall the arms
Of a parent unfold thee.
Yet our Savior to us
The assurance has given,
That of such as thou art,
Is the Kingdom of Heaven.
