MRS. CATHERINE MARTENS DIED SUDDENLY YESTERDAY

After three months of poor health Mrs. Catherine Martens, 83 years old, died suddenly, yesterday at noon, at her home, corner of Indiana avenue and Lafayette street, from a stroke of apoplexy. Mrs. Martens was taken with an attack of grip in the winter, and she had not fully recovered. Only yesterday morning she was able to be up and about the house.
Mrs. Martens was the widow of Hans Martens, nearly all his life a farmer, whose death occurred seven years ago. She was the mother of George, John and William Martens, all residents here, and Miss Mary Martens, who occupied the home with her. Mrs. Martens was born in Holstein, Germany, September 18, 1833. She came with her husband to American and located here. Mrs. Martens' only surviving sister, Mrs. Hans Wich, lives in Germany.
