Peter A. Marquart
FUNERAL TO BE HELD THURSDAY
(From Tuesday's Daily)
The funeral of Peter A. Marquart will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Odd Fellows' hall, where the members of the order will have charge, and where the Rev. Mr. Burkett, a student, himself an Odd Fellow, will deliver the sermon. Rev. T. J. Bassett will assist in the ceremonies. The body will lie in state in the hall from 10 o'clock until the funeral, that it may be viewed by the many friends of the deceased.
According to facts taken from Mr. Marquart's obituary as he prepared it himself during his last illness for reading at his funeral, he was born June 1, 1839, at Albertsdorf, Germany. He came to Valparaiso in 1856 and followed the mason's trade for twenty-six years, or until 1882, when he forced to discontinue on account of poor health. Twice he was elected city clerk, in 1882 and 1886. During this time he commenced the insurance business, and teaching German in the city schools which he followed for twelve years. In 1895 he took the law course at the normal, now the university, and was admitted to the county, state and United States courts at his graduation. Mr. Marquart was the promoter of the Porter County Farmers' Mutual Insurance company, and held the office of secretary from its beginning.
Lieutenant Commander Edward Marquart will reach here from Washington tomorrow, and George Marquart arrived from St. Paul today.
Mr. Marquart had occupied the same house for over fifty years. His remains will be interred in Maplewood cemetery.
