FARM HAND FOUND DEAD AT ROADSIDE
Laporte Herald: Rollo Gardner, who lives near Westville, about 8:30 this morning found the body of Andrew Mackowski, a farm hand, said to be about 65 years of age, lying face downward in the snow about a half mile north of Westville. The body lay beside the road with an empty whiskey bottle near it. Mackowski had been dead some time. One theory is that in his helpless condition he smothered in the snow, though death may have been due to heart disease or possibly to the exposure. Coroner Walkinshaw went to Westville this afternoon to hold an inquest.
Mackowski lived with his wife and one son on a farm known as the Palm place, north of Westville. He went to Westville last night and was on the way home. When death overtook him he dropped down on the south side of the road west of Henry Herrold's place. He leaves four sons, one of whom works for a railroad at Durham.
