N. H. Lund
CHESTERTON CHIPS
In the Lund case Coroner Ketchum did his full duty, as required of him by law. His coming to Chesterton was necessary to procure evidence, and his turning the body over to a medical institute is also authorized by law. Those who are seeking to make capital out of this case had better post themselves upon the duties of the Coroner before they show their ignorance. Coroner Ketchum thoroughly understands the duties of his office and faithfully performs them.
N. H. Lund, who was killed by a wild engine Monday on the Lake Shore road might tell a strange story were he alive. A farmer living along the line saw him acting strangely on the track. The fast train which passes this station almost hit him. After he was picked up, a number of old wounds covered by court plaster were found on his person. The theory is that he was assaulted, severely injured, and was out of his head when struck. The fact that he threw up his hands when the engineer blew his whistle, points to a dazed condition of his mind. The man was a Dane, born in Copenhagen, and had not been long in this country. His body was turned over to a Valparaiso medical society for dissection.
