Peter Lower
KOUTS, IND., Dec. 3 -- Peter Lower took Paris green last Monday morning with suicidal intent. His wife first discovered that he had taken the poison by seeing some on his clothes. He then told her that he had taken it and wanted to die. A physician was speedily summoned and it was thought he would recover, but inflammation of the stomach was caused by the Paris green and he died Tuesday at 11 o'clock a. m. It is not known what was his reason for the act, but he had evidently been having some trouble lately. Mr. Lower is an old and respected resident of this section and his many friends are grieved to hear of the sad affair. Mr. Lower leaves a wife and a large family of children most of whom have grown to manhood and womanhood. Mr. Lower was always a kind and affectionate father and husband and his mind must have undoubtedly been unbalanced to have caused him to commit such an act. A young son and also a grandson of Mr. Lower's recently died and grief may have had something to do with it.
[NOTE: The following issue of The Tribune (December 11, 1891; Volume 8, Number 35, Page 1, Column 3) reports the following: KOUTS, Ind. -- The correspondent was wrongly informed as to the death of Peter Lower. We regret the mistake very much and are glad to say that Mr. Lower is now in a fair way to recover. He was attended by Dr. P. D. Noland, of this place during his illness and it was no doubt die to his efficiency that he did not die.]
