Seth Loomis
GORED BY A BULL.
The Terrible Death of Seth Loomis Last Evening.
Laporte Dispatch, Sept. 13.
Last evening about six o'clock Seth Loomis, a prominent and highly respected gentleman of this county, met his doom in a peculiar but most terrible manner at his home two miles east of Union Mills. He owned a very fine but savage thoroughbred bull, which he had kept in pasture for the past season. Yesterday he drove the animal into his cow sheds with the intention of taming the brute in order that he might place him on exhibition at the coming county fair. Last evening he went into the bull's stall to feed him, when the animal broke the halter strap and rushed toward him. Loomis attempted to dodge the maddened beast but was not quick enough and the horn of the brute entered his right breast, passed through the right lung and protruded from the left breast. The breast bone was torn away, as was the right lung. The unfortunate man's cries brought help to his aid and they succeeded in driving the bull off. He was carried to the house and a messenger dispatched to this city for Dr. Rose, who immediately left for the Loomis farm. Everything within the aid of human hands was done to save the life of the suffering man, but he died in awful agonics at half past four this morning.
