C. H. Langeloh
Report of Coroner's Inquest.
State of Indiana, Porter County, ss:
BE IT REMEMBERED, THAT ON THE nineteenth day of November, 1881, information was given to me that the dead body of a man lay in Centre township, in said State and County, supposed to have come to his death by violence or casualty, and to ascertain so far as possible the cause and circumstances of said death, witnesses were called and sworn, and their material evidence reduced to writing, signed by myself, and filed in the Clerk's office of said county.
Whereupon, I find decedent's name was C. H. Longeloh, that he was thirty years old, of dark complexion, five feet eleven inches high, plainly dressed, in working clothes, and that he came to his death by reason of injuries received from enginer No. 138, extra, of the P., Ft. W. & C. R. R. Co. Said engine in charge of Peter Carter, engineer, while back from Wanatah to Valparaiso, struck C. H. Langeloh, fracturing his skull, breaking his arm, and otherwise injuring him, causing his death in about five minutes from the time of the accident. Said accident occurred about two and one-half miles east of the city of Valparaiso, at or near what is called Hineman's crossing. From the testimony of witnesses we hold the occurrence to be the result of the accident. His person was committed to the charge of an undertaker for burial.
A. P. LETHERMAN,
Coroner of Porter County.
