Huldah King.
The subject of this notice "was born in Orange county, N. Y., Sept. 17, 1794; went to Pennsylvania, 1807, was married to Josiah Sears in 1829; came to Indiana in 1849, since when she lived with her daughter, Mrs. Newton Carr. She united with the M. E. church in 1870, and was a faithful Christian from that time till death," March 5, 1880. Her funeral, at Luther's school-house March 7, was attended by a large number of friends and acquaintances. The discourse was founded on Prov. XIV 26, "In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence; and His children shall have place of refuge." The term fear is used in the scriptures with two shades of meaning: first, that which views the past with remorse and the future with dread; second that fillal regard, -- the loving, obedient regard the child has for tender, faithful, affectionate parent. In this sense, "Blessed is the man that feareth always." In this, "There is strong confidence." The deceased had this. Cannot God, the infinite, almighty, all-wise, just, holy, true and inimitable, all good one, take care of His own? The children of God in the sense of the text, are those who receive Christ in his character as "God manifest in the flesh." "To them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his names; which were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of the man, but of God." "His children shall have a place of refuge." First, in the provisions of the gospel, second in the promises of the gospel, in life, in death, and to all eternity.
