OLD PORTER COUNTY RESIDENT IS DEAD
(From Monday's Daily)
We have just been informed of the death of an old Porter county citizen, who was born and reared in this county. Mrs. M. J. Gilbert, whose maiden name was Mahala Jane Wininger, was born near Valparaiso in 1843. She was married to George Keefer in Valparaiso in 1861, and moved to Olathe, Kas., in 1867, where Mr. Keefer died the following year. In 1874 she became the wife of Frederick Gilbert, whose death occurred some years later. At the time of death Mrs. Gilbert was 72 years old. She leaves a family of five children, three boys and two girls. Mrs. Gilbert is the last one of the five children born to Isaac and Anna Wininger, who were among the first pioneers of Porter county. One grandson of this couple still lives in Valparaiso, and is known to our citizens as Rylis Wininger, whose father, James Wininger, died here many years ago.
