Pearl Jones

Death of Pearl Jones.
Died, in Kouts, Ind., August 2, 1885, Pearl, only child of Frank and Alice Jones, aged 3 mo., 2 weeks.

In your sad and lonely dwelling,
There's an empty cradle bed,
And your hearts with grief are swelling,
For darling Pearl is dead.

'Tis a fair and dainty cradle
With its pillows soft and white,
But within its blankets folded
Lies no little form to-night.

I walk to the spot where the cradle stood,
Where oft I have laid to sleep.
And silently gaze into empty space
And then turn away to weep.

With wreaths on thy head,
White flowers in thy hand were laid.
Haste from this dark and dreary land
Where flowers so quickly fade.

Shall I e'er forget the morning
They led me to her cradle bed,
Telling me in softened whispers
That my darling Pearl was dead.

We still think how safe forever
In the Shepherd's fold above
That poor lamb for whom we sorrow
Restete now in Jesus' love.
