Peter M. Johnson

CHESTERTON CHIPS
Peter M. Johnson, who was found dead in bed Monday, was a pioneer settler of this township, coming here in 1855. About three years ago his wife died, since which time the old gentleman has been living alone in the old Ackerman's house on Gondring's row, and cared for by Mrs. John Halberg, a neighbor. His daughter, Mrs. Johnson of Chesterton, also assisted in his housework. The probability is that he died early Monday morning, and was found at 5 o'clock that evening. It seems that early in the morning he got up and opened all the doors of the house either for air or to let the neighbors know something was wrong. His custom was to keep everything well locked. He is the father of Mrs. John Bergstrom of Muskegon, Mrs. John Nelson of Baillytown, Mrs. Johnson of Chesterton and Charley Johnson, a son-in-law of Wm. Bean, now living in Iowa.
