Peter Johnson
LOCAL.
The coroner reports to us that Peter Johnson, once of this place, since of Wheeler Station, working at his trade of shoemaker, having been drinking on last Saturday, near 12 at night went into his house, sat down on the bed where his wife was lying, talked a while, then got up, shook hands with her, bade her good-bye, went out and locked the door, of all which she thought nothing very strange, because he had done nearly so before; but instead of going to the neighbor's this time, as he had sometimes, he went to the depot, and was found next morning dead beside the railway, with his right hand cut off, and his head and one hip badly crushed. Witnesses before the coroner believed he tried to board the train to leave, and, fell beneath the wheels. The verdict of the jury was that he was killed by the cars between 12 o'clock at night and 6 in the morning. Undertaker Siefke was employed to bring his body to our city cemetery for interment. We bespeak abundant sympathy of all good people for his mourning family.
