Lucy Jacobs
IN PEACE.
Another Old Citizen Completes Her work in this Life.
THE EATH OF MRS. HERR.
Lucy Jacobs was born in Canada, September 18th, 1827, and came with her parents to Michigan when she was two years of age, and afterward, when quite young, came to Michigan City. She was there married to John Cottam who died two years afterward.
In 1849 she came to Valparaiso and taught school, and was married February 18th, 1857, to John Herr who still survives.
Mrs. Herr was the mother of seven children, one son and six daughters. The son, John Herr, is a resident of Benton Harbor.
Mrs. Herr was a devoted Christian woman. She united with the Methodist church in Michigan City in early life, and on March 25th, 1854, was received into the Presbyterian church in this city where ever since she has been an earnest working, consistent Christian. She was especially gifted in prayer and was a means of much good in the work of the church.
She has at various times been a sufferer of pneumonia from which disease she died. Although a great physical sufferer she has always had a bright view of life and tried to make the best of it. She has thus proven a good wife and mother, and a valuable friend to those circles in which she mingled.
She was taken sick with pneumonia Thanksgiving evening, and for some days seemed hovering between the present and the future world until last Monday morning when she fell peacefully asleep in death.
The burial services were held from the family residence Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The funeral sermon was delivered by Rev. R. Beer from Revelation xiv. 13, and the remains were laid to rest in the old cemetery.
