Elmira Hesser
By a Friend.
In memory of Mrs. Elmira Hesser, who died Oct. 10th, in the 20th year of her age, of consumption.
Another dear one has passed away,
Her earthly troubles and trials are passed;
Gone to meet those loved ones there
Who before her the dark river has crossed.
No we can not call thee back to us,
But we may come to thee there.
If we rightly live and rightly act,
Our Father has crowns for us all to wear.
Husband, weep not for your wife so dear;
Dear mother, she has gone to a Christian's home.
Then console yourself, and do not weep,
For she is in Heaven while you mourn.
In the church when now we meet,
We can each other's faces see,
But Elmira's smiles we ne'er shall greet
Until the morn of that eternity.
Let one an all, then, faithful be,
So we can meet with her in heaven above,
Where we shall there each other's faces see,
And there surround that throne of love.
Farewell, dear one. It pains our heart,
When we think of you, your face so dear.
It causes bitter tears to start --
We hope that we may meet thee there.
To heaven gone, thou couldst not stay,
The trials of earth to bear.
Oh, may we labor, watch and pray,
That we may meet thee there.
