Charles H. Harris
HEELED.
A Sad Accident.
Charles H. Harris, a student attending the Northern Indiana Normal, was run over and killed yesterday morning by the Pacific express. Harris was a fine looking young man, 23 years of age, a resident of Newton county, of this state. He is the second student who has met his fate at the crossing, hear the college building. So far as we can ascertain, no blame can be attached to the trainmen. The VIDETTE is not advised at what rate of speed the train was moving at the time, but it is said that young Harris had several times before crossed the track just ahead of the moving trains, and had been asked by his companion not to do so again, and that this time his cousin, who was with him, begged him to wait till the train had passed. He refused, and to the horror of his cousin, was caught by the heel and thrown from the track by the railroad Juggernaut before the eyes of his helpless relative. Harris was in the full vigor of youth and seemingly one of the last likely to be called to solve the problem of life. He was carried to a residence near by, medical aid summoned, and everything was done for him that kindness of skill could suggest, but in an hour's time he had answered to the King of Terrors and taken his appointed place in the class of the Great Leader. Salutatory of valedictory, no mortal ear has heard and no mortal tongue tongue could tell the story -- but let us hope that on the other side of the "valley of shadow," C. H. Harris found that "peace which passeth all understanding." His remains were sent to Francesville, White county, in this state, for interment.
