Isaac Hardesty
Pioneer Deceased.
Isaac Hardesty, one of Porter county's pioneers, passed peacefully away on the 19th inst. at his home five miles west of Valparaiso. He was born in Columbiana county, Ohio, May 22, 1822, and lived to the advanced age of seventy-five years, two months and twenty-eight days.
On the 24th of December, 1846, he was united in marriage to Catharine Sholl, of Fayette county, Penn., to whom were born two sons and four daughters, all of whom survive the decease of their parents. Twenty-one grandchildren also survive him.
Mr. Hardesty was a descendent of the honored Puritans on his father's side, while his mother belonged to the line of the Huguenots who were driven from France because of their religious opinions. He himself was a man of positive character and gifted with natural ability and acquired culture. He ever had the courage to maintain his honest convictions of right and duty. He took an active part in his earlier life in civil affairs and for fifteen years held the office of township trustee.
He lived a sincere christian life since his conversion under the preaching of the Union Band in 1874, and was a diligent worker in the Sunday school until advanced age frequently compelled him to abide at home. The funeral took place from the church at Blatchley's Corners, on Sunday morning last at 10 o'clock. The service was preached by Rev. C. H. Leeson, and interment was made at the cemetery south of the corners. His many friends extend their sympathy to the bereaved in their loss of an honored and esteemed counselor.
By request of Friends.
