John August Gustafson
Obituary.
John August Gustafson; second son of Nelz P. Gustafson, was born in Sweden on Oct. 1855. The family removed to this country in 1868 and settled in the neighborhood of Salt Creek, where John made a reputation for industry which gained him the respect of many warm friends. He was taken down with measels on May 16th and it soon became apparent that his recovery was doubtful. A consultation of physicians was called but all effort failed to restore health. On Sunday morning May 22nd he became unconscious in which state he lingered until Tuesday afternoon, when he passed away. He leaved a widow and three childred with a large family of relatives to mourn his loss. Mr. Gustafson was a much respected man and his death is universally regretted, he had large business and property interests, and will be very much missed. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which he was a Trustee and Steward.
His funeral services were held at the homestead at Salt Creek, the health of the widow preventing the removal to the church. A very large congregation of people were present and much sorrow was manifested. Rev. West of Chesterton officiated.
