DEATHS
Mrs. Marie Magdeline LaHayn died Saturday, Dec. 9, 1873, at 8:30 a. m. She was the daughter of Mrs. Margretha Fry, and was born at Porter, Ind., Dec. 16, 1860, just lacking seven days of being 33 years old. She was united in holy wedlock to Charles LaHayn, April 22, 1878, at the home of her parents in Lake Station. She was the mother of six children, five daughters and one son. Mrs. LaHayn always enjoyed good health until Nov. 18. She was taken sick with la grippe, which terminated in lung fever. During her sickness she knew she never would get well again. Still she was patient through it all, no complaint having escaped her lips, and when the last hour came she bid her mother and family the last farewell on earth. Oh, it was sad, but soon or late, we will all have to follow. The funeral services were held at the family residence at Crocker and from there to the Lutheran church, Rev. E. R. Schuelke, of Hobart, officiating. A large concourse of sorrowing friends attended, and she was laid to rest in the McCool cemetery.
Tender and reverend the tears that are shed,
The blue skies of Heaven bend softly above,
As I think of her home with the angels she loved,
Is it near? Is it distant? We cannot now tell;
We must leave it with Him who doeth all things well.
