Jerry Foster

TWO HOMES VISITED BY DEATH ANGEL
(From Monday's Daily)

Jerry Foster.
On his eighty-first birthday anniversary, Jerry Foster, one of the highly respected citizens of this city and surrounding country, died last evening shortly after 4 o'clock at his home, corner of Main and Locust streets, where he lived with his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Arthur Foster. Mr. Foster had been ill and declining all winter. Previous to his death, for some time, hope for his recovery had been abandoned. Once in midwinter he came to the business district and in so doing sustained a fall. Since then he had kept closely confined.

Mr. Foster was one of the pioneer farmers of this district. He came here, when a young man, from Canada, and later married Miss Jane Hesser. He settled on the farm southwest of this city, where he proceeded to win success, and finally owned much good land. He retired from that vocation twenty-six years ago and moved to this city, but he remained active and was associated with his son, C. E. Foster, in the lumber and coal business.

Little misfortune had overtaken Mr. Foster until three years ago, when three deaths came to grieve him in short succession. Mrs. Washington Alyea, his daughter, died. Three weeks later Arthur Foster passed away, and later Mrs. Foster, his wife. A grandson was drowned at Lake Eliza only a year ago. His brother, Louis Foster, died only recently. Five children survive, as follows: John, Peter, William and Charles Foster, and Mrs. Harry E. Smith, all of this city.
